![]() In Matthew 8, Jesus calmed a storm by simply saying, “Peace, be still.” This miracle demonstrated the power of trusting God’s ability to overcome adversity. ![]() The New Testament is full of examples of Jesus’ followers trusting in God, even when circumstances were dire or felt impossible. ![]() May He send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.” In Psalm 20, we read: “May the LORD answer you when you are in distress may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. The Psalms are filled with words of comfort and assurance that God is faithful to those who trust in Him. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you He will never leave you nor forsake you.” In Deuteronomy 31:6, Moses advised his people: “Be strong and courageous. From the beginning, Scripture encourages us to seek Him, lean on Him, and trust His goodness and mercy. The Bible has much to say about trusting in God. What Does The Bible Say About Trusting God? All these accounts remind us that trusting in God is often difficult but also necessary. Jesus trusted His Father to guide Him and make known His will, even as He faced persecution and death on the cross. Abraham trusted God to provide him with a son, even though he was far beyond his years for fatherhood. Noah trusted God to provide a way to escape a flood despite having never seen rain before. Notably, the Old and New Testaments are filled with accounts of individuals who trusted in God despite seemingly insurmountable odds. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” This verse reminds us that trusting in God and His promises will bring hope and strength even when we cannot see our way out of a difficult situation. In addition, Hebrews 11:1 reminds us that faith is the foundation of trust. This verse is a reminder that trusting in our understanding and abilities can be futile and that we should look to God for strength. The book of Proverbs speaks to this very issue in many ways, stating, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). I submit to your greater power to lead me through this.” Pray from a place of power.The Bible has a great deal to say about trust, and it is clear that trusting in God is of the utmost importance. Your prayer might sound something like this, “God, I accept the situation that I am in. Know that there is a greater purpose, a greater plan. Once you have accepted your current situation, surrender it to God. We may be feeling the flames from the fire and wanting to jump out but we are unable to see that if we jump at this moment we will only be moving into a situation that is even worse. We must trust that from that higher perspective sometimes what is in our long-term best interest cannot be seen from our short term perspective. It is through our faith that we come to understand that there is a bigger plan which can only be seen from a much higher perspective. It does not make all of our struggles, all of our difficulties, disappear. Common advice during these times is to just “Let go and let God.” It is such an easy thing to say and yet is it really so simple? Our faith in God is not a magic pill. Accept where you are.Īs anyone who has been through tough times knows, while you are in the middle of a struggle it is often not possible to even comprehend why it is happening to you, let alone how you will survive the challenge physically, mentally and emotionally. It just may not be a reason that we can comprehend with our current level of understanding.Īs we move through any struggle however, there are certain steps we can take to align with our faith to support us in navigating the storm as efficiently and smoothly as possible. ![]() Without that belief, without that faith, we would have nothing to hold onto, nothing to get us through the dark night of the soul.įaith and trusting in God means believing in God’s divine timing and believing that God has the interest of our greater good at heart, even when we cannot see it in the moment. It is in those times that through our faith we trust that God must have a plan, that there must be a greater purpose to our suffering. Our faith is what sustains us, what gets us through challenging times when we, ourselves, cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. When navigating through some of life’s darkest moments often all that we can hold onto is our faith in God.
